Tomorrow marks the first day of second year. Already I'm sweating bullets when someone mentions Step I. Neuroanatomy is the first block, and I hear it's a doozy. Soon the familiar feeling of being outpaced will find it's way to me.
Of course, the academic year couldn't be the only stressor. My car, which I left under the supervision of a classmate for two months, decided to throw a wrench into my weekend. I was informed in the middle of July that the car was leaking oil and did not have enough oil to meet the minimum line on the dipstick. Prepared with a funnel and a quart of 10W-40 oil, it wasn't enough means. There must have been no oil remaining since adding a quart of oil didn't register on the dipstick. After calling my Mom for reassurance to start the car, I soon learned that the battery was near on its way to being dead. Towed and now housed at the dealership, I'm waiting to hear for a diagnosis. All I can hope is that it's not complex.
The good news is that having persons to call on makes me realize that I didn't do such a bad job at making friends my first year. Although I can only rely on two persons, they're damn well the best persons I could call upon. Still, I can't help but think how much nicer this could be if Steve was here. He was available by phone, helping me logically process the situation and make the best decisions given the circumstances. No histrionics or tears either. I'll probably need to lasso him to Amarillo for third year.
With an Arizona rental car, which has no stickers nor front plate, I'll be starting school leaping bounds over my first hurdle and hopefully landing on my two feet. Surely, there will be more to come.
