Reorganization: Avocation

I've been in such a slump, routinely getting out of bed to crawl to my desk, punching on the laptop, taking a sip of stale tea, and reviewing notes. It's agonizingly dull, and I feel dead. I'm visiting S in a week, so I'm hoping Philadelphia will put some color on my cheeks.

In the meantime, I want to be more active in anything else other than medicine. From none other than quotable medicine figure extraordinaire, William Osler:

“The young doctor should look about early for an avocation, a pastime, that will take him away from patients, pills, and potions…”
- William Osler, from The Medical Library in Post-graduate Work, BMJ 1909;2:925-8.
“While medicine is to be your vocation, or calling, see to it that you have also an avocation – some intellectual pastime which may serve to keep you in touch with the world of art, of science, or of letters.”
- William Osler, from After Twenty-Five Years, in Aequanimitas.
I miss baking and cooking. It's rather inefficient cooking for one. I can't eat everything, as I have gained a bit of padding since college graduation, but the idea of tossing leftovers goes against Asian ingrained rules of wastefulness. It could be a new challenge though.
